Are catholics embattled

The Roman Catholic church works in 20 countries in Africa alone, raising money to bring wells to remote villages, caring for those who are struck down with AIDS, and helping to educate and encourage immunizations against life-threatening diseases. A priest in Rwaanda devotes all of his time these days to rescuing young children who have lost all their family to AIDS and have nowhere to go. He is the only hope for thousands of children who need to become part of a family, to have something to belong to, to have food in their bellies and safety from the world outside.

Pope Benedict has said that it is time for Catholics, as Christians, to repent. The original meaning of the word repent is "to turn one's life around." I am inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and let them rebuild their character. Perhaps there will be a time of reckoning in the RC Church, and as the months go by, it will begin its repenting and will be forgiven.
